Archive Update: Initial Research Complete!

Hi everyone! I’m happy to announce that I have completed my initial research for the Yazidi Genocide Archive. At the beginning of this project in June 2022, I set myself the goal of recording ten to twelve interviews by the following year. Now, ten months later, I have reached the upper end of that goal!

Currently, I have documented seven testimonies from members of the Yazidi community, including survivors of the 2014 genocide and members of the diaspora. I have also recorded five interviews with scholarly experts. The themes in these interviews are many, including examinations of Yazidi identity, testimonies of survival and loss in the genocide, and analysis of the Islamic State’s murderous ideology. These interviews will play a vital role in educating the public about the Yazidi genocide, which remains largely unknown among non-Yazidis, as well as preserving knowledge for future generations. I will continue to interview survivors and scholars in the future to make the archive as comprehensive as possible.

I will be transcribing these interviews in the coming months and will hopefully have them all done by September 2023. After that, I’m going to start building the Yazidi Genocide Archive's website! I’m excited to share more about my progress with you all as I go along, and keep your eyes peeled for more updates. Thank you so much for your support!
